FLASHES

2022

“Flashes” follows a solitary boxer moving between two worlds—one of silence and thought, the other of impact and motion. Seated before a chessboard, he studies each move with quiet intensity. The game is not literal, but a reflection of the internal strategy behind every fight: anticipation, control, sacrifice.

As the rhythm shifts, training takes over. Repetition, discipline, and focus shape his body while his mind remains locked in calculation. These moments begin to fracture into flashes—glimpses of a fight in the ring. Punches are thrown, time distorts, and reality becomes uncertain. Is he preparing for the fight, or already living it? The boundaries dissolve, leaving only the interplay between thought and action, strategy and instinct.

The film was developed as part of the Video Production program at SAE Institute in Zürich, where a strong academic foundation supported the creative process. Throughout the course, essential principles of filmmaking were explored in depth—from story structure and visual storytelling to camera settings, lighting design, and shot composition.

Particular emphasis was placed on understanding how technical decisions shape narrative: how light defines mood, how camera movement guides attention, and how every element within the frame contributes to meaning. This project brings together those fundamentals, applying them in a practical context to create a piece that is both conceptual and technically grounded.
